Exploring Reference Frame Integration Using Response Demands in a Tactile Temporal-Order Judgement Task

چکیده

Abstract Exploring the world through touch requires integration of internal (e.g., anatomical) and external spatial) reference frames — you only know what when where your hands are in space. The deficit observed tactile temporal-order judgements crossed over midline provides one tool to explore this integration. We used foot pedals required participants focus on either hand that was stimulated first (an anatomical bias condition) or location (a spatiotopic condition). Spatiotopic-based responses produce a larger crossed-hands deficit, presumably by focusing observers frame. In contrast, anatomical-based observer frame smaller deficit. This manipulation thus evidence can change relative weight given each quantify effect using probabilistic model produces population estimate show result (Experiment 1) 2) provide an explanation would occur.

Task demands affect spatial reference frame weighting during tactile localization in sighted and congenitally blind adults

Task demands modulate tactile localization in sighted humans, presumably through weight adjustments in the spatial integration of anatomical, skin-based, and external, posture-based information. In contrast, previous studies have suggested that congenitally blind humans, by default, refrain from automatic spatial integration and localize touch using only skin-based information. Here, sighted an...

Mapping nociceptive stimuli in a peripersonal frame of reference: evidence from a temporal order judgment task.

The ability to localize nociceptive stimuli on the body surface is essential for an organism to respond appropriately to potential physical threats. This ability not only requires a representation of the space of the observer׳s body, but also of the external space with respect to their body. Therefore, localizing nociceptive stimuli requires coordinating multiple senses into an integrated frame...

Aging and tactile temporal order.

Although it is generally held that speed of processing declines with age, there have been few studies in which tactile temporal processing has been examined with older subjects. In the present study, temporal order judgments were obtained from a group of younger subjects (n = 28, mean age = 23.5 years) and a group of older subjects (n = 93, mean age = 69.8 years). The subjects judged the tempor...

Recalibration of the Multisensory Temporal Window of Integration Results from Changing Task Demands

The notion of the temporal window of integration, when applied in a multisensory context, refers to the breadth of the interval across which the brain perceives two stimuli from different sensory modalities as synchronous. It maintains a unitary perception of multisensory events despite physical and biophysical timing differences between the senses. The boundaries of the window can be influence...

Constructing a Body-Fixed Reference Frame for a Polyatomic Molecule

An attempt is made to show in a straightforward way how a body-fixed frame may be constructed in classical and hence in quantum mechanics for a polyatomic molecule with the aid of which the vibration-rotation behavior of the molecule may be described.
